Biography

Alan's earliest memories of drawing American cars (or any cars for that matter) were in the 1960's on the back of wallpaper rolls using biros. His references were car adverts found in a large pile of National Geographic magazines donated by a Great Aunt.

From these early beginnings Alan decided to pursue a career in art and design and received a BA (Hons) in Multi-disciplinary Design in 1985.

He has worked successfully in the design and advertising industry for over 30 years dealing with a wide variety of well known brands.

During the past six years Alan was tasked with setting up and managing the retro automotive brand Speedking for which he created all the designs and illustrations.

Being a fan of drag racing he was pleased to be able to have the brand sponsor not only the Gasser Circus but also Sean Milsom's Morris Z Van Gasser. Part of the deal allowed Alan to return to his roots and illustrate one of the Gasser Circus cars to be given to its owner at the annual prize giving ceremony.

With the successful reception of these Gasser illustrations and retirement beckoning Alan has decided to take up illustrating full time.

Alan's illustrations are completed in markers and pencils on heavyweight Bristol paper. He likes this medium because he feels it allows him to retain the smallest details without losing the overall sense of the vehicle he is illustrating.

His art gives the cars the sense of weight and presence that they should have. You can almost hear them idling, waiting to be driven.

As the proud owner of a couple of American cars you will often find Alan at the track or attending retro car shows - don't forget to say hello!!.
